Notes
Such was the popularity of the Great Exhibition several London publishers produced large views of this phenomenal extravaganza.
The view depicts the various art and manufacturing produced in the German states. The image title of 'Zollverein' is the term used to describe the German Customs Union, formed in 1833. This is the earliest manifestation of a concept which many years later was to become known as the 'Common Market' and saw a coalition of German states formed to uniformly manage tariffs and economic policies across their jurisdictions.
