8vo. 7.25 x 4.5 inches. 544 pp. Bound in original blue cloth, gilt, in price clipped coloured pictorial dust wrapper, which has slight wear at head of spine. Patterned endpapers. Boards have a little sunning at lower edge, including spine and page edges some light foxing; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by portrait frontispiece, double page map and by 60 pages of black and white photographic plates, taken for this edition by R. Cecil Hughes. Travel book recounting the impressions and experiences of George Borrow, who had taught himself Welsh, in touring Wales on foot after a family holiday spent in Llangollen in 1854. The photographs relating to the places visited by the author on his route, were especially taken for this edition. Borrow (1803-81) is also known for his Romany writings, including the novels, Lavengro and The Romany Rye and for The Bible In Spain. Wild Wales was first published 1862, and in this edition 1955.
