FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8.75 x 5.75 inches. 192 pp. Bound in original brown cloth, gilt, in unclipped dust wrapper, which has top edge loss on rear wrapper and chips at head and tail of spine; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 24 pages of black and white plates. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. Alice Babette Toklas (1877-1967), US born, was the life partner of US writer, Gertrude Stein (1874-1946), whom she met on her first arrival in Paris in 1907. Stein wrote and published her memoirs under the title of an autobiography in 1933.. This volume, written by herself, not only provides her own account of her life with Stein, but also recalls her friendships with the famous literary and artistic figures of early twentieth century Paris.
