Notes
An index to the surnames of couples in the manuscript calendars of the archiepiscopal marriage licences issued by the Vicar-General of the Archbishop of Canterbury, 1 January 1775-31 December 1800. These were common licences allowing couples to marry in any parish church or chapelry of the Province of Canterbury, thus dispensing with the requirement for the calling of banns on three successive Sundays. The original records are housed in Lambeth Palace Library. This volume is part of a series of these indexes from 1694-1850, published by the Society of Genealogists.
