8vo. 7.25 x 5 inches. 158 pp. + [16] pp. publisher's list. Bound in original floral decorated cloth with gilt and black titles. Patterned endpapers. A little wear to extremities and occasional scattered foxing; otherwise a very good copy. 1902 school prize label on first free endpaper. Illustrated throughout by engraved text figures, including frontispiece and whole page, and by title page, chapter heading and tailpiece vignettes. An improving rags to riches story of an orphaned girl who progresses from poverty to wealth, given as an attendance prize in girls' school in 1902. The text was first published in 'Little Folks,' and in book form in 1883.
