Unloading Luggers On The Beach.
A fine drawing in nice condition.
No place or date but circa 1810.
Original pen and ink and watercolour drawing of two luggers beached on the foreshore being unloaded by a group of sailors and a family group including children.
Image size 15 x 9 inches. Laid paper.
A spirited and animated drawing of a group of maritime rustics of all ages engaged in the process of unloading cargo from the recently beached luggers. The drawing is much in the style of Thomas Rowlandson or Pine. It is impossible to tell from the drawing whether the cargo is legitimate or a smuggling voyage. The goods being unloaded: barrels, packing cases, cloths, and a number of live animals - chickens, a pig, and perhaps a lamb.
