Capel Lofft (1751 to 1824) was a lawyer and minor political figure who wrote prolifically on the law and politics. Lofft was a staunch supporter of Charles James Fox and Napoleon and an active supporter of parliamentary reforms; he also was a great writer of letters, corresponding with the literary figures of his time. In the Three Letters on Regency Lofft addresses the problem of the rights of an Heir Apparent, who Lofft argues has the right as full and entire as that of an actual King: it cannot be limited by the two houses previous to its recognition.
