Bound in original blue cloth, gilt, in price clipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge wear, including small chips at head and tail of spine and stains on rear wrapper. Extremities a little worn and some foxing largely confined to flyleaves and page edges; otherwise a very good copy. Scribbled signature (?) on first free endpaper and blue ink margin notes Illustrated by frontispiece and by 12 pages of black and white plates. Decorated by publisher's device on verso of title. The history of the Peninsular and Oriental shipping line from its first ships in the 1830s, through wartime service to the 1060 launch of the Canberra. By David Divine (1904-87), South African born writer on maritime and defence subjects, including the Dunkirk evacuation, which he experienced first hand, and later wrote the screenplay for the 1958 feature film, Dunkirk.
