Item Description

Large 8vo. 10 x 7.5 inches. 61 + [2] pp. series list and colophon. Bound in quarter black cloth over plain boards with black titles. A little edge wear including corners and foxing of page edges; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 17 pages of collotype Bewick images. Decorated by title page vignette and by printer's device on colophon page. Reprints the 1926 lecture given to the Club on the great wood engraver, Thomas Bewick (1753-1828) by Selwyn Image (1849-1930). Image, artist, writer, poet and stained glass designer associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement, was Slade Professor of Fine Art at the University of Oxford, 1910-16. Numbered limited edition printed by the Baynard Press (1894-1960) for The Print Collectors' Club.
