FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 5.75 x 8.75 inches. vi + 194 pp. Bound in original black cloth, gilt, in price clipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has small chips at head and tail of spine and small stains on rear wrapper. Extremities a little worn, blank first free endpaper removed and some foxing of preliminaries and edges; otherwise a very good copy. 1973 inscription on front pastedown. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. The eighteenth published title in the author's The Sensual World autobiographical sequence. It is an account of the author's maritime travels along the Mediterranean shores, inspired by recent fiction writings in Penguin editions. Rupert Croft-Cooke (1903-79), born in Edenbridge, Kent, was a prolific writer both of non-fiction and of novels, publishing his detective stories under the name of Leo Bruce.
