Bound in contemporary half leather over marbled boards; spine in compartments with gilt bands and contrasting title label, gilt. Some wear to extremities and a little foxing of flyleaves and title page; otherwise a very good copy. A notable work of Francis Bacon first published in 1605. Francis Bacon, 1st Viscount St Albans (1561-1626) was an English philosopher, statesman, scientist and lawyer. He held office as Attorney General and Lord Chancellor of England but his political career ended in disgrace. His reputation lies in his extremely influential writings and as the creator of the Baconian, or the scientific method at the beginning of the scientific revolution.
