First edition, deluxe issue. 12mo. 5.6 X 4.25 inches. 86 pp. Blue moir? cloth with gilt stamped decoration and colour onlay to the upper cover. Pictorial endpapers. All edges gilt. Presented in blue buckram clamshell box. Colour frontis and colour plates throughout by the author. In 1904 Warne asked Beatrix Potter to provide a design for a deluxe edition of her new book, and a small number were produced in a fine, silk moir? cloth, the page edges gilded and the design to the covers embossed in gilt. These deluxe copies sold at the higher price of 1/6-, rather than the usual 1/- for the standard paper covered copies.
