8vo. 9 x 6 inches. [2] + vi +504 pp. Bound in half black leather, gilt, over brown boards with gilt block on front board and spine. Rough cut edges. Some wear to extremities and darkening of spine, but otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by frontispiece, by 54 plates at end and by tables. A standard history of the silver coinage of England from the pre-Roman period to the reign of Queen Victoria, first published in 1841. Edward Hawkins (1780-1867), numismatist and antiquary was Keeper of Antiquities at the British Museum, 1816-60 and held office in the Royal Society, the Society of Antiquaries of London and the Numismatic Society of London. The work was revised and extended by the numismatist, Robert Lloyd Kenyon (1848-1931).
