12mo. 7 x 4.5 inches. [24] + 518 + [92] pp. Index, with separate half title. Bound in original red leather, gilt, with decorative gilt borders to boards; spine in compartment decorated gilt with gilt bands. All edges gilt. Coat of arms on front pastedown. A little wear to extremities, including edges of lightly sunned spine, but otherwise a very good clean copy. A comprehensive and detailed almanac for the year 1878, with full lists of office holders, the membership of the Lords and Commons, higher ranking naval and army officers, sailing and steam vessels of the navy, the Law, Bishops of the Church of England and parish incumbents in the London area, the Universities, literary and scientific institutions, railway companies and London hospitals, infirmaries and charities, etc. The coverage for England is weighted towards London. Separate sections cover Scotland, Ireland and British colonies. With an additional appendix, which is an Index of Names. The Royal Kalendar was published with variant titles under the imprint of various publishers from 1767 to 1898 (see Library Hub, National Trust Libraries entry). In a handsome red and gilt binding.
