[vi] + 180 pp. Bound in original brown cloth, gilt, in unclipped dust wrapper, which has slight edge wear with small neat repairs and is slightly sunned. otherwise a very good copy. 1977 gift inscription signed by contributor Wilhelm Feldberg on first free endpaper. Illustrated by one page of plates and by text figures. Essays on the historical development of six fields of physiology which have flourished in recent decades, written to celebrate the Centenary of the Physiological Society in 1976. Personal accounts by leading physiologists in their respective fields, the authors being eyewitnesses to the major developments and in many cases were themselves the major discoverers.
