FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8 x 5.25 inches. vii + [i] + 122 pp. Bound in original maroon cloth, gilt, in unclipped dust wrapper, which has slightly sunned spine. Traces of foxing on flyleaves, but otherwise a very good clean copy. Signature of H. T. Raikes on first free endpaper. Illustrated by tipped in photograph portrait frontispiece. Poems written 1919-1945 by David Raikes (1924-45), Sergeant Pilot in the RAF. The four members of his Boston bomber crew were shot down in April 1945, raiding bridges in the Po Valley, shortly before the end of the war in Italy. In 2013, the crash site was rediscovered and the crew were laid to rest with full military honours in a Commonwealth was cemetery in the City of Padua. With a forty page introduction by Charles Wrinch, teacher at Radley College.
