A little sunning of lower board edges and scattered foxing, including edges; otherwise a very good copy. Signature on half title. Illustrated throughout by nearly 100 line drawings. Map endpapers. Early printing of a children's fantasy adventure novel; now regarded as a classic it has been translated into many languages. First published in the US in 1961, this is the second reprint of the first UK edition of 1962. Norton Juster (1929-2021) started writing while serving in the US Navy and after his discharge, arranged for his neighbour, Jules Feiffer (b.1929), who later achieved fame as a satirist and cartoonist, to illustrate The Phantom Tollbooth with his line drawings, producing a perfect combination of text and illustrations.
