FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 5.25 x 7.5 inches. 254 + [1] pp. Bound in original pink cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has missing sections at head and tail of spine. Extremities worn, but otherwise a very good copy. Gift inscription from author, signed Micky, North Wales, 1952, on first free endpaper. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. First edition of novel set in immediate post-war Eastern Europe, including Hungary, by Micky Burn (1912-2010), journalist and poet. A wartime Commando captain, he was captured after the St Nazaire raid and later imprisoned in Colditz Castle. Burn married in 1947 and moved to North Wales, hence the dedication in this copy.
