8vo. 8.75 x 5.5 inches. [ii] + 71 pp.+ [1] pp. colophon on rear free endpaper. In grey stiff card boards with blue cloth spine and black titles. Fly leaves browned but otherwise a very good clean copy. Stamp of Dover Borough Engineer's Dept 1939 on first free endpaper. Decorated by title and colophon pages vignettes. Study of nailbourne, or intermittent chalk streams with particular reference to the author's home area of East Kent. In other parts of the country these intermittent streams are known as winterbournes and, for instance, form part of village names in Dorset. Part II of this work contains the author's detailed observations on the winter flows of the nailbourne streams of Petham, Elham and Alkham from 1910-36. The name Nailbourne has also become specifically attached to the upper part of the Little Stour river. We have information that the daughter of F.C. Snell, who died in 1957, informed us that only thirty copies of this work were printed. Library Hub records six of these as held by four copyright and two other libraries. Certainly a very scarce title.
