Notes

A detailed political history of Europe, written in epistolary form with a detailed chronological contents list at the beginning of each volume. William Russell (1741-93) was a Scottish historian who was earlier involved in the bookselling and printing trade in Edinburgh and London. The work was originally published in five volumes in 1779, 1784 and 1786. It proved to be a popular title and appeared in numerous later editions until 1850 with updating volumes, covering subsequent events, being added in the same format.
