Notes
Held in honour of the Duke of Wellington's 10th year as Lord Warden of Dover, this extravagant banquet was held in a pavilion specially erected for the occasion. It held around 2250 who paid 1½guineas (£1.57pence). The ball was held 6 days later in the same location, at which around 940 guests were present, and was reported to continue into the early hours, with music played by the 27th and 90th regiments.
William Burgess, the famous drawing master and artist of Dover was commissioned to make drawings, engravings and paintings recording the event.
