Notes

The author argues that the nunnery at Hoo was founded by Werburg, daughter of King Wulfhere of Mercia and a royal lady of Kent between 686 and 697. It lasted until about 840, the threat from the Danes, who destroyed it, leading to her remains being transferred to Chester.
