Edited version of the four notebooks of Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904), Welsh-American journalist and African explorer, which had recently been discovered in Stanley's country seat. They cover his Second Central African Expedition, 1874-77, sponsored by the New York Herald and Daily Telegraph, from Zanzibar to Lake Victoria, which he circumnavigated, Lake Tanganyika and, discovering a source of the Congo, on to the Atlantic coast.
