Younghusband was a noted soldier and explorer, born in India in 1863, who became famous through his accounts of his expeditions across China, Tibet, India and Afghanistan. Described as 'the last great imperial adventurer' he also made three attempts to climb Mt. Everest, the third in 1924 being the expedition in which Mallory and Irving lost their lives.
