FIRST EDITION. 4to. 10 x 8 inches. 229 pp. Separate section headings for each part Bound in original black cloth, gilt. Deckled edges. Fly leaves browned and spotting. Scattered spotting of text pages elsewhere, but otherwise a very good copy with clean plates. Illustrated by 32 pages of black and white plates, including frontispiece. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. A catalogue, with detailed entries, of 136 Blake prints in five sections, I, Prints engraved by Blake from his own designs, II, Prints designed by Blake, but not engraved by him, III, Prints engraved by Blake, but not designed by him, IV, 1, Prints signed by another engraver, but believed to be...Blake's work; 2, Prints commonly attributed to him, but either regarded as doubtful or not accepted by the present writer. Section V is a list of books produced by Blake by...illuminated printing. Archibald Russell (1879-1955) who also contributed an introduction on the Engravings of William Blake, was a herald at the College of Arms and an art historian, specialising in the work of Blake. A scarce limited edition copy.
