FIRST EDITION. 8vo 8 x 5.5 inches. ix + [i] pp. publisher's advertisements + 102 pp. Bound in contemporary calf; spine in compartments with raised bands, with contrasting black morocco title label, gilt. A little age wear to extremities, damp stain on top corner of some plates, sometimes touching on image and scattered foxing; otherwise a very good copy. Early signature at head of title. Illustrated by 51 engraved plates, each accompanied by letterpress descriptive pages, of which 10 are hand coloured, including frontispiece. The instructive text is followed by a section of plates, illustrating human anatomy and the figure,groups, animals, landscapes with buildings and flowers. One of the hand coloured plates depicts a fine macaw. A later edition appeared in 1827.
