Large 8vo. 9.75 x 7 inches. 208 pp. Bound in original black cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper. A very good copy. Illustrated by 16 pages of colour plates and by numerous black and white photographic plates, all numbered in text. Account based on a series of BBC programmes in which the programme makers followed the officer of the Customs and Excise (as it was then called )as they went about various tasks and investigations. These included tracking members of a cocaine gang, stopping a heroin smuggler, a VAT enquiry which turned into a dramatic car chase and the surveillance of illegal distilling, as well as more traditional smuggling activities at Dover and Heathrow. Peter Gilman (b.1942) is a journalist and writer, whose titles include several accounts of mountaineering.
