Illustrated by armourial frontispiece and throughout by text figures, including diagrams and facsimiles and plan. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. A history of the Institution of Civil Engineers, established in 1818 with Thomas Telford as first president, from 1820-34. An appendix list the all the officers of the Institution. By the Secretary, Garth Watson (1914-92), Secretary, 1967-79, who retired from the Royal Navy as Admiral Superintendent, HM Dockyard, Rosyth in 1966.
