The Altar In The Loft.
Putnam, 42 Great Russell Street.
FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 6 x 8.75 inches. 222 pp. Bound in original maroon cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge wear, including chips at head and tail of spine. A little wear to extremities and foxing of fly leaves, title page and fore edge; otherwise a very good copy. Signed by author on title page. 1974 inscription on first free endpaper. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. The eighth published title in the author's The Sensual World and the second, chronologically speaking, in his autobiographical sequence. It recollects the Kent countryside, his days at Tonbridge School and his early obsession with Anglo-Catholicism.
