4to. 11 x 9 inches. [vi] + 262 pp. Bound in original green cloth, decorated with gilt blocks. All edges gilt. Extremities worn and rubbed, including corners and edges and spine sunned. Front hinge strengthened; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 44 steel engraved plates, including frontispiece, protected by paper guards. Vol. II only of the descriptive guide to the Great Exhibition of 1851. Text by John Tallis ( 817-1876), a cartographic publisher, well known for his London Street Views. This volume covers principally fine art and artefacts, with some scenes of life overseas. Illustrated by photographers, John Jabez Edwin Mayall (1813-1901) and Richard Beard (1801-65) of the Beard Mayall Company. Edited by Jacob George Strutt (1784-1867), portrait and landscape painter.
