Illustrated by 8 pages of black and white plates. Map endpapers. ' The second volume of the two part biography of Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904), Welsh-American journalist and African explorer. It covers the period of his life, 1877-1904, when he outwitted the nations of Europe to provide Leopold II, King of the Belgians with a personal fief in the heart of Africa, the Congo; also the disasters of the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition, 1886-90, which damaged his reputation. The author, Frank McLynn (b.1941) is well known as an historical biographer.
