Souvenir Album Of North Wales Views.
John Riley and Co.
[n.d., c. 1890]
8vo. 6.5 x 8.75 inches. Concertina type view-book of sepia glazed lithographs, extending to c.108 inches, containing 18 different images. Bound in red cloth with green spine, decorated gilt, with gilt title on front board and by blind stamping on rear board. A little wear to extremities and some inner folds starting to split at lower ends; otherwise a very good copy. This type of view-book originates in Germany and was printed there. It is a late example of the curious mixture of photograph and engraving which were prolific from about 1875 to 1895, when photography finally won the day. Includes fine double page views of Landudno, Rhyl, Conway Castle and the Menai Bridge. This example illustrates the Pavilion at Landudno, completed in 1886, but differing from its later format, with fewer other buildings surrounding it
