Large 8vo. 10 x 7.75 inches. 64 pp. Bound in original blue cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has sunned spine and inner board edges; otherwise a very good clean copy, Illustrated throughout by Mervyn Peake drawings, including whole page and vignettes. Selections from the 1853 novel by Charles Dickens, accompanied by the appropriate drawings of Mervyn Peake (1911-68). These were produced in the late 1940s for a projected illustrated edition of Bleak House which never came to fruition. Edited by writers, Edward Blishen (1920-96) and Leon Garfield (1921-96), both of whom were known for their children's fiction.
