12mo. 6.5 x 4.25 inches. 196 pp., with Notes pp.173-8 and A Glossary, pp. 179-196. Separate half titles for each part. Bound in contemporary half morocco over marbled boards. Extremities worn with corners rubbed and some foxing; otherwise a very good copy. Signature at head of title with crossed through inscription on verso. Illustrated by 4 engraved plates, including frontispiece. A collection of the author's poetical writings bound together. It includes the popular Scotland's Scaith, or the History of Will and Jean(dating from 1795 with many later editions); The Songs (preface dated December 1805) and The Scottish Muse (Jamaica, 1798), all paginated together in one volume, whose plates are dated 1st January 1806. Hector Macneill (1746-1818) was a Scottish poet, who spent the early part of his career working in the West Indies and wrote about the condition of the slaves.
