Notes
Verse translation from the Latin by Jean, comte de La Roche-Aymon. The illustrations are engraved by Fortuné Méaulle (1884-1901) after designs by Besnier. They and the titles of the other works available in the series suggest they were intended to be lightly erotic. Sextus Propertius (c.50-45 BC- c. 15 BC) was an elegiac poet of the Augustan era.
