Bound in original red cloth, gilt, front boards with gilt and blind stamped border, enclosing gilt block of pheasant. Bevelled edges. All edges gilt. A little wear to extremities, pine sunned and slight traces of foxing but otherwise a very good clean copy.

First published as Pheasants for Coverts and Aviaries in 1873, this work had appeared in six editions by 1922. William Bernhardt Tegetmeier (1816-1912) was a distinguished naturalist with a special interest in domestic poultry. He was a friend and correspondent of Charles Darwin and they collaborated in experiments on bees and pigeon breeding. A well-illustrated volume, handsomely bound.
