Bound in original red cloth, gilt, with decorated black borders enclosing block of stag's head and gilt block of game bird on spine. Extremities worn and stained but a good interior. Map bookplate, label and 1975 signature of Edward Carpenter on front pastedown. A sporting gentleman's accounts of hunting, shooting and fishing in Scotland, which also includes tales of hunting at Melton Mowbray and Brighton, with a journey there by stagecoach, hare coursing on Romney Marsh and 'a week's idling at Boulogne.' By Fred Feild Whitehurst (1814?-88), author of books on sporting, hunting, coaching, including Tallyho (1878) and Hark Away (1879) and on the diseases of cattle.
