David Low (1786-1859) was the son of a Berwickshire land agent and published his first book, 'Observations on the Present State of Landed Property', in 1817. He was an early editor of the Quarterly Journal of Agriculture, which was established at his suggestion' and became Professor of Agriculture at the University of Edinburgh in 1831.
'On Landed Property' appeared in only one edition but was, nevertheless, a key textbook on the management of landed estates for the mid-century period. It is particularly useful for its coverage of farm and estate buildings, land drainage, minerals and woodlands. A fine copy of a standard textbook on estate management from the great era of improvement in lowland Scottish agriculture.
