Some wear to extremities, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by portrait frontispiece and throughout by 320 black and white photographs by the author. Decorated by title page vignette. An extensively illustrated survey of daily life in the remote corners of nineteenth century Surrey. The photographs by the author are of people, houses, cottages, farms, furniture, firesides, candlesticks, ornaments, crockery, tools, etc. A pioneering classic survey of traditional rural life by the famous gardener and garden writer, Gertrude Jekyll (1843-1932)
