Illustrated by 14 colour engravings. Decorated by vignettes and colophon.
Notes
Verse translation from the Latin by Ulysse François, comte de Sèguier (1830-1909). The illustrations are engraved by Fortuné Méaulle (1884-1901). after watercolours By Meyer (possibly Emmanuel Meyer). They and the titles of the other works available in the series suggest they were intended to be lightly erotic.
Quintus Horatius Flaccus (65 BC-8 BC) fought on the losing side at Philippi, but was later reconciled with Augustus and settled on an estate at Tivoli. He is considered to be one of the greatest Latin poets.
