Quotation on Friendship, decorated in colour, on front pastedown. 1928 gift inscription on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 8 black and white photographic plates, including frontispiece. This volume of gentle bucolic essays is very vague as to locations but the photos reveal Leeds Castle and chapters on Hopping betray Kentish origins, this is a Kent without cars or bustle. According to the British Library, the author's name is a pseudonym for Roy Frank Johnson. A bonnet laird was a small Scottish landowner, who wore a bonnet like an ordinary countryman. Scarce.
