FIRST EDITION. Tall 8vo. 10 x 6.5 inches. 107 pp. Bound in original orange cloth, gilt, with gilt block on front board, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has minor edge wear at head and tail of spine. A little wear to extremities and browning of flyleaves, but otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by 4 folding plates of colour sketches and by numerous line drawings, including title page vignette, by Felix Topolski. The author's third play, in which the King of Burma, the last of the Pagan dynasty, which fell before the Tartars in the thirteenth century, is the leading character; ' a drama which transcends history and normal fact, and is carried by its style into the region of poetry.' Maurice Collis (1889-1973), born in Dublin, joined the Indian Civil Service in 1911 and was transferred to Burma the following year. After returning to England in 1934 he devoted himself to writing, which included autobiographies, biographies, history, fiction and drama. Illustrated by the Polish born artist, war artist and book illustrator, Felix Topolski (1907-89).
