4to. 11.25 x 8.75 inches. [iv] + 116 pp. Bound in original blue cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge wear and creases and slight sunning at top. Minor wear to board edges, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 18 pages of colour plates, including frontispiece, and by 111 in monochrome gravure 'a witty and knowing distillation of London experienced - a panorama of its history, art, literature and life.' A successful collaboration between writer and photographer. The text is by novelist, V. S. Pritchett (1900-97) and the illustrations by Evelyn Hofer (1922-2009), German-American portrait and documentary photographer. First edition published 1962.
