Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. A little edge wear to extremities and top edge slightly darkened. Some foxing of fly leaves and engraved title; elsewhere scattered foxing elsewhere, including some plate margins; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 40 plates, including frontispiece and engraved vignette title. (including 'dark plates'). An early issue of the first book edition of the novel which features a child raised in the Marshalsea debtors prison. It had previously appeared in weekly parts. Dickens's errata after the plates list, notes the need to substitute the name Blandois for Rigaud in chapter XVII. The text includes the internal flaws noted by Smith. (Smith, Part I, 12).
