First published in 1903, these advisory leaflets for farmers, were in the first in a long series published by the Board of Agriculture and its successors. This collected edition appeared until the seventeenth of 1919. Ten of the leaflets deal with wild birds, most of which were considered to be beneficial to agriculture, several being already protected by legislation. The house sparrow, with its cereal grain eating habits, remained an exception and the Board recommended the formation of Sparrow Clubs to keep the numbers down.
