Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Hop Intelligence and Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. A group of gypsies, all of the Cooper family were charged as rogues and vagabonds and were sentenced to Brixton Tread Mill for varying periods. In the civil side of the Kent Summer Assizes, defendants won cases for the destruction of a rookery, the property of a Cinque Port magistrate by a farmer in the Parish of St Peter in Thanet and for the pulling down of fences at Rodmersham. A man got over the wall of Leybourne Grange to steal fruit and stepped on the wire of a spring gun which fired into his legs which were shattered.
