FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8.5 x 5.75 inches. 191 pp. Bound in original turquoise cloth, gilt. spine faded, but otherwise a very good copy. Signature on first free endpaper, Illustrated by 15 pages of photographic plates, including portrait frontispiece. Very good account of cross channel swimming, which remains one of the best works on the subject. Sam Rockett (1919-89) was a famous figure in Folkestone in the 1950s, assistant manager and instructor at the open air pool and training supervisor for the Daily Mail and Butlin's international Channel races, 1950-51 and 1954.
