An account of the author's recovery from injuries received on active service. Squadron Leader William Simpson (1914-2005) was shot down in flames over Belgium on 10 May 1940 as the German Blitzkrieg in the West opened. He received treatment from the pioneering plastic surgeon, Sir Archibald McIndoe at East Grinstead and subsequently was able to build up a new family life and career.
