Songs and trifles.
FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 5.5 x 7.75 inches. x + 279 + pp. + pp. publisher's advertisements. Bound in original green cloth, gilt with gilt block of decorative roundel enclosing author's initials on front board. Deckled edges. Extremities worn, fly leaves browned and front hinge starting to crack; otherwise a very good copy. Faint 1935 signature on front pastedown. Decorated by publisher's device on verso of half title. The penultimate, and considered to be the most cheerful of Hardy's poetry collections, these old and new verses are often pastoral in tone and recall characters from his earlier fiction. Some also remember his first and second wives, Emma and Florence.
