Extremities a little worn with a few edge creases and small tears; otherwise a very good set. ownership label inside wrapper of [Vol. 2]. Illustrated throughout by over 150 black and white photographs, including 2 portrait frontispieces. Decorated by title page vignettes. Multi-lingual catalogue of the collection of historical microscopes of the Henri Van Heurck Museum, assembled by Henri Ferdinand Van Heurck (1838-1909), and owned by the City of Antwerp. The second volume contains a study of of the resolving power of non-achromatic simple and compound microscopes of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, both parts by Karel Edward Frison (1888-1973).
